    George Thatcher joined the U.S. Air Force at age 18. He held positions as a training specialist, air weapons director, pilot/instructor in B-52 and B-66 aircraft, and command/control officer. He served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts, and flew 125 combat missions in Southeast Asia. After retiring with 20 years service, he became an educator and has a variety of teaching assignment, including a year in Mainland China. He is now semi-retired from Texas Tech University but continues to teach as adjunct professor for Southern Illinois University. He began writing aviation poetry as a hobby, and is now in the process of compiling a comprehensive book of military flying poetry that will include the work of many nations written during many periods of aviation history. He enthusiastically welcomes the poetry of Canadian aviators and flying aficionados as potential entries for the book.

    Larry Simpson is the author of three books. His first two books, The Soldiers Lament and the Bugles call are books of poetry pertaining to war. His third book, Tales of The Limerick Forest and Other stories are poems relating to Ireland and assorted other topics. Some of these are serious poems while others are fanciful and lighthearted.

    Each book is dedicated to the memory of the serviceman who proudly served their nation with honor and pride. This is Mr. Simpson’s was of honoring not only our veterans but also those who currently serve and those as yet to come.

    All proceeds from these books are donated to the poppy fund and Veterans Food Bank excluding cost. On November 13, 2002, Mr. Simpson was awarded the Queens Jubilee medal by the Right honorable Art Hangar M.P. for Calgary North East and now deceased Lieutenant Governor Lois Hole in the province of Alberta for his work with the Veterans. His books have been sanctioned by Alberta/N.W.T. Legion Command for sale. Such dignitaries as Queen Elizabeth, Prime Minister Paul Martin, Leader of the Official Opposition Stephen Harper, Premier Ralph Klein, and Mayor Dave Bronconnier have copies of Mr. Simpson’s books.
